                       The word astaxanthin has a

                             [ Greek ]  root 

                      ( Αστακóς, meaning crab ) 

          because it was first extracted

 from crayfish.

                                    astaxanthin       

is a fat-soluble red pigment that

can be found mainly in

microalgae 

                                 called Haematococcus pluvialis

and fungi called Xanthophyllomyces

dendrorhous.
